In which Lys assumes he should know everything, featuring a piece of Toronto's LGBT history!
From
caseyhouse.com: "Casey House is Canada’s first and only stand-alone hospital for people with HIV/AIDS. In 1988, the disease was stigmatized, and so were the people who lived with it. Fear ran so deep that Casey House’s first patient was delivered to the door by a team of medics wearing hazmat suits. He was greeted by Casey House with an embrace. It was the first time he’d been touched in months."
Casey House recently moved from a renovated mansion to a purpose-built facility across the street, providing services like inpatient and day health programs, community outreach, and research and education.
From CEO Joane Simons - "As treatments improve and clients are able to live longer, they face new complexities that come with aging with HIV/AIDS. Infection rates are climbing within Aboriginal communities and for women, many who are newcomers to Canada. HIV/AIDS is not going away and our clients need us now more than ever."
